What is a lateral inversion? Explain with an example.

  1. The phenomenon due to which the left side of the object appears to be the right side of the reflected image and vice-versa, on a reflecting surface, is called lateral inversion.
  2. For example,

2.1. When we stand in front of a mirror and close our left eye, our right eye appears to be closed in the image that is formed in the mirror.

2.2. The word AMBULANCE is written in the reverse order on the ambulance vehicle so that the driver of the vehicle plying ahead of the ambulance looks in the rear-view mirror and can easily read ambulance on it and give way to it.
