What is a magnetic compass? State its use.

  1. Magnetic compass is a small magnetic needle provided at the centre of a small brass box that has a glass top.
  2. The needle is free to rotate, one end of the needle is painted red which indicates its north pole, and another end is painted blue which indicates its south pole.
  3. When the magnetic compass is placed on a table the needle rests in a north-south direction with the red end pointing towards the north & blue end pointing towards the south.
