  1. We know that the earth has its magnetic field.
  2. Earth is a giant magnet with its north and the south poles, but this magnetic field is not fixed.
  3. It is slowly and continuously changing both in magnitude and direction.
  4. It turns out that the magnetic poles are not fixed and over a large amount of time, they can even flip their poles.
  5. So this process of flipping the magnetic poles of earth is called magnetic field flip.
  6. In the past, around 100 million years there are around 171 such flips have occurred.
