Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, but commonly including varying amounts of other higher alkanes and a small percentage of $C{O}_2$. It mainly occurs deep under the earth's crust.

Natural gas is a very important fossil fuel because it is easy to transport through pipes. It is stored under high pressure as compressed natural gas (CNG).
