Negative feedback loop:

  1. The feedback that is based on decreasing the functioning of the source that causes the product is called a negative feedback loop.
  2. It occurs as a method of homeostasis to maintain the physiological state of the body without disrupting it.
  3. Several hormone functions, enzyme secretions, as well as body temperature are regulated via the negative feedback loop.

Example of negative feedback loop:

  1. Regulation of body temperature in humans is an example of a negative feedback loop.
  2. The Hypothalamus of the brain reacts to the fluctuations in temperature and acts as a thermostat.
  3. Whenever the temperature outside the body drops, the body shivers to raise the temperature of the body as a heat-producing mechanism.
  4. On the flip side, when the temperature of the body rises beyond the temperature of the surrounding, the excretory system is signaled to expel the extra heat as sweating in order to cool the body down.
