A peninsula is a piece of land that is almost entirely surrounded by water but is connected to the mainland on one side.
Southern part of India is in triangular shaped and surrounded by water bodies on three sides and land on the other; therefore we can say it is a Peninsula.
Indian peninsula is surrounded by Arabian sea on the west, Bay of Bengal on the east and Indian ocean on the south.
