What is a phage vector?

Open in App
Solution

Phage vector:

  1. Vector acts as a vehicle in molecular biology, especially in recombinant DNA technology.
  2. They carry the DNA and join another DNA part and replicate in the host cell.
  3. Plasmids and bacteriophages are the most commonly used vectors depending on the size of the desired gene.
  4. Bacteriophage lambda is used as an expression vector in the cloning process.
  5. It has the capacity to clone up to 24kbp size of DNA which is larger than plasmids.
  6. The reason for using Phage vector is the efficiency of packaging, and infection, and easier plaque screening
  7. Example: M13 phage
