A population pyramid is a bar chart that shows the distribution of the population by age and gender.
In a population pyramid, the Y-axis represents different age groups in the population, and the X-axis represents the male and female populations, with males on the left and females on the right side of
the axis.
The shape describes the population composition of a country.
The bottom part representing the age group below 15 years constitutes the young population.
A wider bottom implies a high birth rate in the region.
The top part representing the age group above 65 years constitutes the elderly population.
A narrower top implies a high death rate in the region.
The young and old populations are dependent populations as most of them cannot work to fulfil
their needs.
The middle portion constitutes the working population.
