Solution

nterest Group Movements
pressure groups do not aim to directly
control or share political power.
Movements have a loose organisation.
Their decisions are always bent on fulfilling their specific interest Their decision making is more informal and flexible.
Interest groups are interest specific. Their existence is to function for the interest . Movements are flexible, they can be issue specific movements that seek to achieve a single objective within a limited time frame. Others are more general or generic movements that seek to achieve a broad goal in the very long term.
Interest groups have an organisation There is no single organisation that controls or guides such
movements.

On the basis of their structure and organisation, there can be following types of Pressure Groups:

  • Institutional Interest Groups :Groups that are formally organised of professionally employed persons. They are a part of government machinery and try to exert their influence.
  • The Associational Interest Groups : Groups that are organised for interest articulation, but to pursue limited goals. These include trade unions, organisations of businessmen and industrialists and civic groups.
  • Anomic Interest Groups : Groups that have analogy with individual self-representation. In such type of groups, perpetual infiltrations such as riots, demonstrations are observed. These groups are found in the shape of movement demonstrations and processions, signature campaigns, street corner meetings, etc. Their activities may either be constitutional or unconstitutional
  • Non-Associational Interest Groups : These are the kinship and lineage groups and ethnic, regional, status and class groups that articulate interests on the basis of individuals, family and religious heads. These groups have informal structure. These include caste groups, language groups, etc.
