Prokaryotic cell:

  1. The cell in which the genetic material is not surrounded by any membrane, it is suspended freely in the cell which is also called the nucleoid
  2. The prokaryotic cell lacks membrane-bound organelles such as the Endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus.
  3. Bacteria, archaea, and cyanobacteria are prokaryotic organisms.

Example: Bacteria :

  1. The single-celled microscopic prokaryotic organism lacks membrane-bound organelles.
  2. They are found in all kinds of environments such as soil, water, radioactive waste, hot springs, seawater, and deep oceans
  3. The shape of bacteria can be rod-shaped (Bacillus), comma-shaped (Vibrio), and coccus-shaped (Cocci).
  4. Some of the bacteria are autotrophic but the vast majority of them are heterotrophs.
