What is a root cap?

Root cap :
The root is covered with a thimble-like structure at its apex called a root cap.
It is a protective layer of tissues that protects the roots as it grows deeper into the soil, for absorbing nutrients.
The root cap is formed by parenchymal cells of the apical meristem (a meristem tissue located at the tip of shoots and roots).
The main function of the root cap is to protect the apical meristem and is also important for the primary growth of plants.
