Solution

Different formulas for a2+b2:

Using algebraic properties:

  1. a2+b2=a+b2-2ab [a+b2=a2+b2+2ab]
  2. a2+b2=a-b2+2ab [a-b2=a2+b2-2ab]

Using complex numbers:

a2+b2=(a+ib)(a-ib)

By Pythagoras theorem:

If a is base and b is perpendicular to a right-angled triangle, then a2+b2=c2. where c is the length of hypotenuse.
