A measurable characteristic which takes different value at different points of time and in different circumstance is called a variable. Different variable vary differently and depending on the way they vary, they are broadly classified into two types.

S.N Discrete Variable Continuous Variable(i)A discrete variable can take only wholeA continuous varible can take anynumbers.numerical value.(ii)Discrete varibles increase in finite jumpsContinuous variables can take anyfrom one value to another and cannotconceivable value and can be broketake any intermediate value between them.into infinite gradations.(iii)Examples-number of workers in a factory,Examples-height, weight, distance, etcnumber of residents in a colony, etc.
