Any quantity or entity which has magnitude and also a direction is denoted as a vector. An example is a force. Force has a magnitude and it can be assigned a direction. Hence, Force is a vector. Another example is displacement. Displacement is a change of the position but in a specified direction. Hence, the distance which a particle moves in a specific direction is displacement and therefore it is represented as a vector. On the other hand, some quantities like volume, mass are scalars, which has magnitude but cannot be assigned any direction.
