Accelerated eutrophication is the aging of a water body due to nutrient enrichment of its water. This is the condition due to the movement of the chemicals containing nitrates and phosphates in the water system. It can be natural or artificial.
Causes of accelerated eutrophication:
Runoff of fertilizers from the nearby field to the water body causes algal bloom which leads to eutrophication.
Sewage and industrial effluents increase the temperature and BOD of the water body, thereby causing increased biological activity, leading to algal blooms.
