Air pollution:

  1. The introduction of toxic and harmful gases in the air that results in the degradation of the quality of air is called air pollution.
  2. Various substances like smoke, dust, suspended particulate matter, fumes, etc are responsible for causing air pollution.
  3. There are both natural(forest fires, volcanic eruptions, etc) and man-made(industries, vehicles, etc) sources of air pollution.

Effects of air pollution on humans:

  1. Various toxic gases like nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, CFCs, etc are emitted from industries, vehicles, etc that cause diseases to human beings.
  2. It causes respiratory diseases like asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart diseases, stroke, lung cancer, etc to human beings.
