Open in App
Solution

  • Alum is Aluminium potassium sulphate.
  • Alum (also known as phitkari) is used in the loading tank, for the sedimentation of the suspended clay particles in water.
  • When alum is added to the loading tank, the suspended clay particles get loaded with the alum particles. Thus, they become heavy and settle down at the bottom of the tank.

Concluding statement-

The alum (Phitkari) is used for separating suspended impurities from the water.
