Solution

The fluid which is present in the mother's womb is called the amniotic fluid. Amniocentesis is done in pregnant women to determine chromosomal and genetic defects by extracting the amniotic fluid from the amniotic sac. Karyotyping can be performed from the cells. The chromosomal abnormalities like the trisomy 13, trisomy 18 and Down syndrome can be detected using this technique.
