Amygdala:

  1. The part of the forebrain which is located in front of the hippocampus is primarily associated with emotions, and memories associated with fear, and aggression.
  2. The amygdala is also defined as a component of a group of brain structures that are collectively termed the limbic system, which mainly play role in processing fear and emotions.
  3. The removal of the amygdala leads to the absence of the ability to process fear (example: in the Urbach Weithe syndrome).
