An adsorbent material is a solid substance that tends to adsorb another substance or remove the impurities from liquid or gas substances that are harmful to the environment.
The most common source of adsorbent material are wood, coal, and coconut.
The pores of the adsorbent are divided into three types throughout the solids. i.e. Macropores (diameter more than 50nm), Mesopores (diameter between 2-50nm), and Micropores (diameter less than 2nm).
Carbons and silica gels are adsorbent materials consisting of complex networks of micropores, mesopores, and macroporous interconnected to each other. They are amorphous.
Molecular sieve Zeolite is a natural adsorbent material that has precise dimensions of molecules in it. It is used in the removal of Acetylene (), Propane (), and Butane () from the air.
