A base that is soluble in water is known as an alkali. Alkalies dissolve in water to given hydroxyl ions(OH- ) as the only negatively charged ions.

All alkalies are bases but all bases are not alkalies.

Example: NaOH(Sodium hydroxide)

KOH(Potassium hydroxide)
