Solution

Alloys are:

  • Alloys are substances that are prepared by mixing 2or more metals in molten state, or a metal or non-metal.
  • They have low melting point (M.P), and are highly electricity resistant.
  • They are resistant to corrosion, and they are hard and have high tensile strength.

(b) Alloys used in making cables:

  1. Nickel steel: It is made up of 97% iron, 1% carbon, and 2% nickel. It is used as it is hard, and corrosion resistant.
  2. Invar: It is made up of 64% iron, 36% nickel. It is used as it has low coefficient of expansion.
