Solution

Alloys are:

  • Alloys are substances that are prepared by mixing 2 or more metals in molten state, or a metal or non-metal.
  • They have low melting point (M.P), and are highly electricity resistant.
  • They are resistant to corrosion, and they are hard and have high tensile strength.

(a) Alloys used for making aeroplane:

  1. Nickel steel: It is made up of 97% iron, 1% carbon, and 2% nickel. It is used as it is hard, and corrosion resistant.
  2. Duralumin: It is made up of 95% aluminium, 0.5% magnesium, 0.5% manganese, and 4% copper. It is used as it is light and strong.
  3. Magnalium: It is made up of 95% aluminium,20% magnesium. It is also light and hard.
