Solution

1. Alloy

An alloy is a homogenous mixture of two or more metals with a small number of non-metals. An alloy is prepared by mixing various metals in a molten state in required proportions and then cooling their mixture to room temperature.

The properties of the alloy are different from the properties of the constituent metals from which they are made. Alloys are harder, stronger, anti-corrosive properties. They have lower melting points than the constituent metals.

2. Constituents of brass and bronze

The constituents of brass and bronze are given below:

1. Brass: Brass is an alloy made up of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn). It contains 80% copper and 20% zinc. It is more malleable and more strong than pure copper.

2. Bronze: Bronze is an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn). It contains 90% copper and 10% tin. It is tough and anti-corrosive in nature.

3. Use of bronze

Bronze is very tough and highly resistant to corrosion. Due to its strength, it is used to make statues, coins, medals, utensils, and ship propellers.
