When one of the metals in an alloy is liquid mercury, the alloy is called an amalgam.
Thus, amalgam is an alloy of mercury (Hg).
For example, zinc-mercury (Zn-Hg) and sodium-mercury (Na-Hg) are amalgams.
All amalgams are alloys but all alloys are not amalgams.
