Question

What is an example of Kinetic theory of matter?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The various gas laws were merely based upon experimental observations and did not have a theoretical explanation. To account for the observed behavior of gases, a theory known as kinetic molecular theory was proposed which takes into account the particle nature of matter that is atoms or molecules as well as the constant movement of these particles.
  2. The kinetic gas equation:
    1. PV=13mnc2
    2. Where P= Pressure exerted by the gas
    3. V= Volume of the gas
    4. m=mass of each molecule
    5. c= root mean square (RMS) velocity of the gas
    6. n= number of moles of gas molecules
  3. The Maxwell-Boltzmann equation drives the base of the kinetic theory of gases, It states the allocation of speeds for gas at a convinced temperature.
  4. Brownian motion is an example of the Kinetic theory of Matter.
  5. All gases are made up of a very large number of minute particles (atoms or molecules).
  6. The actual volume of the individual molecules is negligible as compared to the total volume of the gas, which is due to the large distance separation between the gas molecules.
  7. Since the molecules are in a state of continuous random motion, they keep on colliding with one another and also with the walls of the container, thereby the direction of their motion changes from the area of high concentration to the area of low concentration.
