What is an homologous series? Explain with an example.​

A series of compounds in which the same functional group substitutes for hydrogen in a carbon chain is called a homologous series. There is a difference of CH2 units between each successive compound of a homologous series. The general formula for compounds of homologous series is the same.​

Example: Methanol, Ethanol, Propanol, Butanol… are the members of the same homologous series.​
