Solution

Meristem :

  1. The region of plants where active cell division takes place is called meristem.
  2. Meristem consists of rapidly dividing cells that assemble together (tissues) to form buds, from which new leaves, flowers, and stems arise.
  3. Meristems that occur at the tip of roots and shoots are called apical meristem which produces primary tissues of plants.

The open form of growth:

  1. The type of growth in which the number of cells goes on increasing or are continuously added by the division in meristems of plants.
  2. The tip of the root is occupied by the root apical meristem and the axis of the stem is occupied by the shoot apical meristem.
  3. During the formation of leaves and elongation of the stem, some of the cells of shoot apical meristem are left, which develop into axillary buds.
  4. Axillary buds are present in the axils of leaves and have the capability of forming a flower or a branch.
