Dear student, Optical detector is a device at the receiver end, which converts light in to electrical signal so that the transmitted information may be detected. Characteristics of an optical detector are:(1) size ia compatible with the optical fibre, (2) high sensitivity at the desired optical wavelength, (3) high response time for fast speed data transmission /reception. The efficiency of generating electron hole pairs in a photodiode decides the quality of detector. Regards
