Solution

Vasopressin:

  1. Vasopressin is a neuropeptide synthesized in the hypothalamus and secreted from the posterior pituitary gland.
  2. Vasopressin helps in increasing water reabsorption in the collecting ducts by decreasing the water excretion by the kidneys.
  3. Hence, vasopressin helps regulation of the amount of water in the body.
  4. If the level of vasopressin decreases kidneys may excrete too much water which leads to dehydration and low blood pressure.
  5. Another name for vasopressin is antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
