What is anti peristalsis and what does it cause??

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Antiperistalsis is the upward or backward wave of contraction in the alimentary canal that occurs when the body needs to expel food content outside through the mouth. Because of local irritation of the stomach, a reflex action is generated by the distension of the esophagus and intestine. This results in the contraction of longitudinal (esophagus and intestine) and circular muscles (just above the bolus).
