Question

What is armature voltage?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The voltage developed at the terminals of the armature winding of an AC or DC machine during the generation of power.
  2. The armature voltage formula is
    V=kηϕ
    Where k is constant based on armature design, η is armature speed in rpm and ϕ is flux generated by the magnetic field.
  3. However in physical motors, the resistance is distributed from one end of the winding to the other.
  4. Armature voltage is the same as terminal voltage.
  5. It is used in dc and ac machines. In dc machine the armature is the rotating circuit.
