Question

What is aromaticity and huckle rule ?

Open in App
Solution

In 1931, German chemist and physicist Erich Hückel proposed a theory to help determine if a planar ring molecule would have aromaticproperties. His rule states that if a cyclic, planar molecule has 4n+2 π electrons, it is considered aromatic. This rule would come to be known asHückel's Rule.

Aromaticity is used to describe a cyclic, planar molecule with a ring of reasonance bonds that exhibits more stability than other geometric or connective arrangements with the same sets of atoms.

Aromatic compounds are those organic compounds which obey following rules.

1 carbon atom should be sp2 hybridized.

2 cyclic structure.

3 Must obey huckel rule.that is

no.of π bond electrons = (4n+2)π electrons.
