Ataxic gait:

  1. Ataxia gait is defined as the ability to make a smooth, accurate, and coordinated movement.
  2. It is most commonly seen in cerebellar disease.
  3. It is described as clumsy, staggering movements with a wide-based gait.
  4. Ataxia gait may be acute or chronic.
  5. While standing still, the patient’s body may swagger back and forth, known as titubation.
  6. As patients will not be able to walk from heel to toe or in a straight line.
  7. The resemblance of ataxia to inebriation or drunkenness is not a coincidence as alcohol is known to affect the main nerve cells in the cerebellum.
  8. Walking is uncoordinated and it appears to be not ordered.
