Solution

Autogamy:

  2. It is mostly observed in the form of self-pollination, a reproductive mechanism employed by many flowering plants.
  3. The egg cell fuses with the sperm cell produced by the anthers of the same flowers.
  4. It does not lead to genetic variations in the progeny.
  5. Pollination occurs in cleistogamous flowers.
  6. For example, it includes sunflowers, orchids, and peas.

Geitonogamy:

  1. The transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of another flower on the same plant is called Geitonogamy.
  2. It needs a pollinating agent and it is functionally cross-pollination.
  3. It does not result in genetic variation.
  4. The flowers perform self-pollination.
