Open in App
Solution

Phytohormones:

  1. These are plant hormones that regulate the physiological and biochemical processes in plants,
  2. They are of different kinds. Auxins and cytokinin are a type of phytohormones.

Auxin:

  1. Auxin is a plant growth regulator or plant hormone involved in many growth processes in plants.
  2. Auxin promotes the elongation of stems of plants by stimulating cell elongation and growth in stem cells.
  3. Auxin also stimulates the formation of roots from cuttings.
  4. It also inhibits/prevents leaf fall (abscission).
  5. Auxin also plays an important role in the development of fruits.

Cytokinin:

  1. Cytokinin is another plant hormone/plant growth regulator involved in cell division and cell growth.
  2. This hormone gets naturally synthesized in the plant roots.
  3. It is required for the normal growth and differentiation of fruits and leaves.
  4. Along with auxin, it also prevents the aging/senescence of leaves.
