Endometrium:

The inner lining of the uterus is said to be the endometrium.

  1. When fertilization occurs and the embryo gets attached to the wall of the uterus(implantation).
  2. If there is an overgrowth of cells present in the lining of the endometrium it may cause the formation of endometrial polyps.
  3. These polyps are commonly noncancerous but can become cancerous with time causing complications in pregnancy and leading to miscarriage.
  4. It is quite common in women who are undergoing menopause. These have to be removed surgically otherwise could cause hemorrhage.
