1. Bleaching powder is calcium oxo-chloride. Its chemical formula is CaOCl₂.

2. Preparation: by passing chlorine gas over dry slaked lime.
Ca(OH)₂ + Cl₂ ----> CaOCl₂ + H₂O

3. Its uses are-
• to bleach washed clothes.
• disinfect drinking water.
• manufacture of chloroform.
• bleach linen, cotton and paper.
• used as oxidising agent in many industries.
