(i) Red blood cells (RBCs): RBCs are the most abundant cells in the blood.
Function- RBCs contain a red pigment called haemoglobin which carries oxygen and transports it to all other parts of the body. It gives blood its characteristic red colour as well.
(ii) White blood cells (WBCs): WBCs include a variety of cells like neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, mast cells,dendrites, macrophages, etc.
Function-They are mainly responsible for providing immunity to the body.These cells fight against various infections and protect the body from foreign particles like bacteria, virus, etc.
(iii) Platelets: Platelets are the smallest cells in the blood.
Function-The platelets contains blood clotting factors and thus its main function is to prevent bleeding.
(iv) Plasma : fluid part of blood is called plasma.
Function- It suspends the other components of the blood, i.e, RBCs, WBCs, platelets.
