Open in App
Solution

The Bredig's arc method:

  • It is also referred to as electrical disintegration.
  • Both dispersion and condensation take place in this method.
  • This method is useful in the preparation of colloidal sol of silver (Ag), gold (Au) or platinum (Pt).

Method:

  • Metal electrodes are dipped in the dispersion medium and an electric arc is struck between these electrodes.
  • By doing so, intense heat is generated that helps in the vaporization of metal.
  • Then, condensation of metal takes place and results in the formation of particles having colloidal size.
