Open in App
Solution

Types of hydrocarbon:

Hydrocarbons are classified into two classes Saturated hydrocarbons and Unsaturated hydrocarbons.

  • Saturated hydrocarbons include those hydrocarbons which have only single bonds between carbon-carbon(C-C) atoms and these compounds are known as alkanes.

Unsaturated hydrocarbons include those hydrocarbons which have one or more than one multiple bonds between carbon-carbon atoms.

  • Alkenes are those unsaturated hydrocarbons that contain at least one carbon-carbon double bond(C=C). Example: Ethene CH2=CH2'
  • Alkynes are those unsaturated hydrocarbons that contain at least one carbon-carbon triple bond. Example: Ethyne CHCH

Hence, C double bond is called Alkenes.
