Lithosphere- The surface area/crust of the earth is called the lithosphere. It is generally covered by soil and rocks.
General functions of Lithosphere:

1. It is rigid hence, provides the earth its shape.
2. Supports the biosphere by helping in the fixation, growth, and maintenance of living organisms.
3. It is considered the main nutrient pool of living organisms and hence is providing the medium for nutrient cycles.
