What is called Motion?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A property in which a body changes its position with respect to time is known as motion.
  2. The types of motion are:
2.1 Linear motion: Linear motion can be defined as the particles moving from one point to another in either a straight line or a curved path.
2.1.1 Rectilinear motion: Rectilinear motion can be defined as the particles moving from one point to another in a straight line.
2.1.2 Curvilinear motion: Curvilinear motion can be defined as the particles moving from one point to another in a curved path.
3.2 Rotational motion: Rotatory motion is the motion that occurs when a body rotates on its own axis.
3.3 Oscillatory motion: Oscillatory motion is the motion of a body about its mean position.
3.4 Periodic motion: A motion that repeats itself after equal intervals of time is known as periodic motion
3.5 Circular motion: Circular motion is described as a movement of an object while rotating along a circular path

4.There are also two types of motion on distance/displacement per unit time:
4.1 Uniform motion: When a body travels an equal distance at an equal interval of time it is known as uniform motion.
4.2 Non-uniform motion: When a body does not travel an equal distance at an equal interval of time it is known as uniform motion.
