Canaliculus -

  1. Bones cells called osteocytes or osteoblast are present between lacunae.
  2. The lacunae in the bone communicate with each other by a network of canals called canaliculi.
  3. Thus, they are microscopic canals found in bones between the lacunae.
  4. Canaliculus is present in bones but absent in cartilage.

Function -

  1. The slender process of osteocytes and its communication with capillary is functioned by canaliculus.
  2. It helps the bone cells to receive food and oxygen and also to eliminate waste materials.
