Solution

Chasmogamy,is a plant reproductive mechanism in which pollination occurs in chasmogamous flowers.Chasmogamous flowers are commonly showy with open petals encircling exposed reproductive parts.Chasmogamous flowers have exposed anthers and stigmata similar to the flowers of other species.

Cleistogamy is a type of automatic self-pollination of certain plants that can propagate by using non-opening, self-pollinating flowers. Especially well known in peanuts, peas, and pansy this behavior is most widespread in the grass family. It occurs in Cleistogamous Flowers.

There are two types of flowers present in plants namely Oxalis and Viola − chasmogamous and cleistogamous flowers. Chasmogamous flowers have exposed anthers and stigmata similar to the flowers of other species.

Cross-pollination cannot occur in cleistogamous flowers. This is because cleistogamous flowers never open at all. Also, the anther and the stigma lie close to each other in these flowers. Hence, only self-pollination is possible in these flowers.

The main differences between Chasmogamous Flowers and Cleistogamous Flowers are as follows.
CHASMOGAMOUS FLOWERS CLEISTOGAMOUS FLOWERS
1.The flowers open, exposing anthers and stigmas. The flowers remain closed so that anthers and stigmas are never exposed.
2. The flowers may undergo self pollination or cross pollination. The flowers undergo only self pollination.
3. A pollinating agency is often required. No external pollinating agency is required.
4. The flowers are often prominent. The flowers are not much distinguishable
