There are different separation techniques present depending upon the properties of the substance to be separated, one of them is chromatography

  • Chromatography is a technique for separating mixtures into their constituent parts.
  • Chromatography involves the sample being separated and mixed with a solvent called the mobile phase
  • When the mobile phase moves through the stationary phase the components present separated depending on the solubility of components in the solvent
  • Depending upon the type of stationary phase i.e whether it is paper or silica packed in a glass tube chromatography is of two types paper chromatography and column chromatography

Applications

  • To separate drugs from the blood
  • To separate colors (components) from flower extract, ink, etc.,
