What is cloning in biotechnology?

Open in App
Solution

Cloning:

  1. It is the process of creating replicas of a particular cell using cell genetics.
  2. Cloning might include copying the genetic material, stem cells, or simply somatic body cells.
  3. These clones can then be utilised for replicating a piece of genetic material, regeneration of an injured or lost body organ, or the generation of an entire organism.
  4. Examples of cloning include vegetative propagation in plants, and the generation of organs or parts of organs that have lost their function (for instance pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin).
