Question

What is closure property?

Open in App
Solution

In lay man's language, close property says that for a mathematical operation, if the numbers on which that operation if being performed to a certain set A (say), then the resultant of the expression should also belong to that set A. If not, then the closure property is not satisfied.

For example: 2 and 3 are both whole numbers.

On adding, 2+3=5, which is also a whole number, therefore, closure property for addition on whole numbers is satisfied.

For subtraction, 23=1, which is not a whole number, hence closure property for subtraction on whole numbers is not satisfied.
