Co-extinction:

  1. Extinction due to the obligatory association of plant or animal is known as co-extinction.
  2. Co-extinction is the loss or decline of related species.
  3. When a species becomes extinct, then plants and animals that were dependent on it also become extinct in due time.

Example:

  1. When fish become extinct, many other predators for which this fish was the primary food source would also become extinct.
  2. A coevolved plant-pollinator mutualism where extinction of one invariably leads to the extinction of the other.
