Coal:

  1. It is a flammable black or brownish-black sedimentary rock with a high carbon and hydrocarbon content.
  2. As coal takes millions of years to create, it is classified as a nonrenewable energy source.
  3. It's made up of plant remains that have been compressed, hardened, chemically changed, and metamorphosed throughout geologic time by heat and pressure.
  4. It is classified into five types- Peat, bituminous, sub-bituminous coal, Lignite, and Anthracite coal.
